In the accessory design program at SCAD, you study accessory design as a niche within the fashion industry and learn how to market your work. You conceptualize and create apparel items such as shoes, handbags, belts, gloves and hats.
Building on a foundation of sewing, sketching and rendering, you learn patternmaking skills, develop your craftsmanship and construct 3-D prototypes based on your own designs. Studio facilities feature state-of-the-art equipment and technology, including women's and men's shoe lasts, a shoe finishing machine and cylinder industrial sewing machines.
The SCAD accessory design program, an extension of the renowned fashion department, is the first in the world to offer an M.F.A. and the first in the United States to offer an M.A.
